The prevailing narrative of Caitlyn Jenner's groundbreaking E! docuseries I Am Cait has centered on Caitlyn's journey toward a greater understanding of not only the trans community, but the larger LGBT community and its continued societal obstacles. The series, unlike its counterpart Keeping Up With the Kardashians, downplays the stretched drama of traditional reality television in favor of something truly remarkable for mainstream television.

However, a particular issue that's only sporadically raised on the series is Caitlyn's long-held placement on the Republican side of American politics. This issue was addressed briefly during Jenner's historic Diane Sawyer interview, with Jenner suggesting that she would be more than happy to guide Republicans toward acceptance of the trans community. During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Caitlyn Jenner expounded on her conservative background and its impact on her growing relationships within the LGBT community:

"At first, I was not for [same-sex marriage]. I'm a traditionalist. I'm older than most people in the audience. As time has gone on, I think, like a lot of people on this issue, I've really changed [my] thinking here. I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness."

Though Caitlyn Jenner's stance as a Republican might perplex some, perhaps her presence among conservatives will help issue in some obviously much-needed lessons in acceptance.
